ADDRESSING THE ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE ABOUT THE ARIEL SHARON PARK AND WASTE DISPOSAL
Joanna Maissel grew up in North London and came to live in Israel in 1991. She lived for many years in Jerusalem before moving to Modiin in 2000 with her husband where they have brought up their 3 children, Carmi, Noam and Yasmin.
After many years working with English speaking immigrants in Modiin, Joannamade a career change in my 40’s and discovered the world of guiding, nature and environment.
She started by teaching waste separation at source and the mantra of environmentalists -” reduce, reuse, recycle” to Modiin school children. She then became a “Nature in the Bible” guide at the Neot Kedumim Biblical Nature Reserve and then a local guide at Park Ariel Sharon, the Hiriya Garbage Mountain and surrounding areas. I am still guiding at both of these reserves. I am passionate about nature in this land and believe in the importance of maintaining green areas to protect habitats and biodiversity and ensure that nature is available to everyone.
