The IPF committee has spent the day debating, drafting, and deciding how to handle the issue of cyborg rights, a problem that has been troubling the galaxy for a very long time. After the consistent discrimination against cyborgs, the International Planetary Forum has convened to discuss. The committee began with opening statements, during which notes were constantly being passed around, setting the tone for what was clearly going to be a divided committee.
After the floor was opened for motions, Doctor Okun, Superman, and Spock each gave motions, with Doctor Okun’s motion for a 10:1 on the definition of life. We got to hear many different opinions during this MOD, with Doctor Who promoting the rights of cyborgs and introducing specific criteria that he believes should guide future resolutions. Agent K spoke briefly about the importance of maintaining the “blood purity” standard and how necessary it is to sustain it. Marvin the Paranoid Android countered Agent K, refuting his beliefs about blood purity and Alaric Ward mentioned the criteria that Doctor Who made and called for more decisive action about the real problems facing the validation of cyborgs everywhere.
A 15 minute UNMOD followed, and alliances were quickly solidified and both blocs worked intensely to recruit members from the opposing sides, alongside frantic changes to the resolutions with many voices intercepting and mixing. In the final summary of the UNMOD, Optimus Prime spoke about the bettering of the lives of cyborgs and how they plan to do so and the questions they brought up. Agent K spoke about how he worked to restrict rights of cyborgs during the UNMOD and called for humans to see the importance of this restriction to help protect the human race.
After lunch, a MOD was presented titled, “Cyborg rights: yay or nay”, during which Agent K adamantly spoke against cyborgs. A gentleman’s debate follows this, with many different people speaking, countering each other, with some centered around Agent K’s resolution, and others centered around Doctor Who’s. Specialized rules of procedure are reviewed but proved to be too confusing to continue with, and as the floor is opened to motions again, Superman motions for a guest speaker, Wilkus motions for a 15 minute UNMOD, Agent K motions for a guest speaker. When the voting for Superman’s motion occurs, more than two thirds of the committee votes for the motion, and a cyborg guest speaker is arranged.
A cyborg from a far, far away land was brought in, speaking about the rights of cyborgs and was strongly for the rights of cyborgs and spoke with many delegates and answered questions. After being asked what it was like to be discriminated against, the cyborg said that it made them want to talk to this committee and work everything out. After the departure of the cyborg, more motions are brought to the floor, with the UNMOD winning after the Chairs establish that there are only 20 minutes for resolution submissions. After the UNMOD, resolutions were submitted to the chairs and Marvin the Paranoid Android was kicked out of the airlock before being brought back in.
The UNMOD is closed, and resolutions begin, with the two rival blocs fervently defending their individual resolutions. Doctor Who and Doctor Okun present their resolutions first, and Erek King the Chee and Marvin the Paranoid Android’s resolution follow. In light of the two resolutions, a couple delegates decided to put in their thoughts about the resolutions and try to give one final push and convince people to vote for their resolutions. Finally the time for voting had arrived. Everyone, save two people, vote for the resolution of Doctor Who and Doctor Okun, leading to the end of debate for the first day.
