By Gossip Girl:
The IPF committee has spent another day consulting, sharing opinions, and writing resolutions, focused on the important topic of Endangered and non-Spacefaring Species. Important subjects were discussed at great length, and from the beginning, the resolutions were incredibly important to the delegates and the committee as a whole. Opening statements gave people the opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions with the committee, cementing their stances on this delicate issue.
The floor is opened to motion, and Optimus Prime proposes a 10:1 MOD on the risks of prematurely advancing species, and it passes the voting. Optimus Prime speaks first talking about how you shouldn’t advance species unless in imminent danger, and that they shouldn’t be helped. Okun follows, saying how other species wouldn’t be able to sustain the possible viruses that could be spread from interacting with them too soon. Finally, Spock says we still need to be able to intervene if there is a life threatening event that could ruin a planetary society. Following this, Doctor Who shares that he and Doctor Okun are already building a resolution to help create guidelines to interact with endangered galactic species before the UNMOD’s have even begun.
The motion elapses and after the floor is opened for motions, Agent K proposes a 10 minute UNMOD, Dr. Okun proposes a 15 minute UNMOD, which passes. The UNMOD begins and people quickly break into groups to discuss and begin convincing one another to join resolutions. Dr. Okun fervently tries to convince more people to join his resolution, as does Marvin the Paranoid Android, but they are each arguing for different sides. After a very hectic UNMOD, it begs the question of how the resolutions will develop and how the committee will progress. After the UNMOD elapses, the floor is opened for motions, and Alaric Ward, Yoda, and Optimus Prime each give motions. Alaric Ward proposes a 10:1 MOD on summarizing the UNMOD and it is immediately passed with no objections.
Wilkus, Yoda, and others speak about how they’ve started drafting a resolution that includes a complete non-interference policy to make sure that no species get interfered with, while Doctor Ukun spoke about his resolution with Doctor Who, and how they spent the UNMOD debating about the topic of interference. Optimus Prime has teamed up with the Doctors and has almost finished the resolution, and teamed up with Spock to discuss specifically the topic of interstellar zoos, and that only non-sentient animals would be there.
After the break, the floor was opened for motion, and that opening was taken up immediately by Alaric Ward, Agent K, and Doctor Who. Alaric Ward presented a motion to kick Agent K out of the airlock, and Doctor Who presented a 6:07 minute UNMOD that was passed. After the UNMOD, the chairs asked for the delegates to send in their resolutions to get reviewed over lunch and said submissions are open until 1:30. A motion was made again to kick Agent K out of the airlock and it was passed, leaving Agent K silent for 10 minutes, with sign language being his only form of communication.
Afterwards, there was a 15 minute UNMOD until the break that allowed the delegates to finalize resolutions before submission. After the Global Village and lunch break, an additional UNMOD was issued by the Chairs, that once again allowed the delegates to do their best to finalize their resolutions. A motion to consult an expert xenobiologist was also proposed by Agent K, and it passed. While a xenobiologist was searched for, the committee once again was in an UNMOD.
After a xenobiologist was found, she spoke about the dangers of cloning, the importance of sustaining the environment, and more. Afterwards, more motions were brought out, until finally the motion to read resolutions was passed. Klaatu presented the resolution, in collaboration with Erik King the Chee, Marvin the Paranoid Android, Superman, and more. After this resolution, Doctor Who and Yoda presented their resolution that they made with many other delegates. Doctor Who and Yoda’s resolution wins with an almost complete consensus. This brought about the end of this exciting two-day committee and the end of TIMEMUN for this year.
